Bayou Cane Fire Department provides a full array of emergency services generally associated with the fire service and in keeping with the goal of protecting and preserving life, property, and the environment.

Suppression (Fire Response)

The Operations Division, sometimes referred to as Suppression, is the emergency response arm of the Bayou Cane Fire Department. Its personnel are responsible for the control and extinguishment of fires, the provision of emergency medical and rescue services, as well as initial response and assessment of any environmental hazards.

Emergency Medical Services

The Bayou Cane Fire Protection District EMS operations currently provides BLS (Basic Life Support) to the residents and visitors of the Bayou Cane community. The department's apparatus are equipped with the medical equipment necessary to provide pre hospital care before the arrival of an ambulance. The apparatus respond to all life threatening emergencies and motor vehicle accidents. The Battalion Chief will respond with the apparatus to all cardiac arrest and major incidents. The majority of the suppression personnel are trained to the EMT-Basic Level while the rest are trained to the EMR Level.

HAZ-MAT Evaluation & Response

Bayou Cane Fire Department maintains the ability to respond and initiate a Hazardous Material Emergency Response in conjunction with the Terrebonne Parish OEP and Louisiana State Police. BCFD Firefighters are trained to Hazardous Materials Operations level, with some members trained to OSHA complaint Hazardous Materials Technician level. BCFD routinely responds to calls of Natural Gas leaks, gasoline spills, and have additional responsibilities with the large number of commercial vehicles that frequent our area.
