#PROTECT BAYOUCANE

On October 14, 2017, the Bayou Cane Fire Department asked its constituents to #ProtectBayouCane via two propositions on the ballot.

Proposition 1 was to provide funding for the fire department - - ten mills for the next twenty years. This small increase in financial backing would have allowed the fire department to reach safer staffing levels.

Proposition 2 would have allowed the Bayou Cane firefighters to properly train in updated facilities by providing bonded funds.  This allowance of 5.5 million bonded dollars would have provided a state-of-the-art classroom for intense instruction and evaluation of fire service performance, driving simulators, a burn building, and in-house training infrastructure. This plan included better use of the department's land, where the training facility would have been built.
